Springfield is extremely fortunate to be home to Missouri’s only native butterfly house, opened in 2009, thanks to the vision, dedication and hard work of Dr. Bill Roston, who turned a childhood love of butterflies into a place to inspire the same among the thousands of visitors each year. Today, his work is carried on by Dr. Chris Barnhart from Missouri State University, who helps raise the butterflies, and a dedicated group of volunteers and interns through Friends of the Garden and the Park Board.
A number of sponsorship opportunities are available to advance the core Butterfly House and its surrounding support system to maintain this enviable habitat for these indispensable beauties of our ecosystem.

The Roston Native Butterfly House is located southeast of the Botanical Center in the heart of the park. The building is surrounded by the other gardens in the attraction.
