Aquathon Series and 9th Annual Kid’athlon
events offer triathlon-style races

 

Springfield, MO, July 6, 2012 - The Springfield-Greene County Park Board hosts two triathlon-style events next month.

 

The Aquathon Series features weekly kids’ and adults’ swim-run races Tuesday evenings throughout July at Chesterfield Family Center, 2511 W. Republic Road. The course includes 1-mile run and a 150-yard swim. Participants earn points each week, based on age group placement. The top three participants in each age group are recognized following the event. Anyone age 5 to adult may participate.

 

The Aquathon Series takes place at 7 p.m. July 10, 17, 24 and 31. Check-in/registration is 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. the day of the race. Registration is $10 per person, per week, and includes a t-shirt. For more information, call 417-837-5900 or visit www.parkboard.org.

 

The 9th Annual Kid’athlon, is a triathlon for kids aged 5 to 14 years of age, with age-appropriate swimming, running and biking events held Saturday, Aug. 4, at Meador Park, 2500 S. Fremont. The events include a 50- to 100-meter swim, .5 to 1.1-mile run and a .5 to 2-mile bike ride, depending upon the age group. Bikes and helmets are required for the race.

 

The Kid’athlon begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4. Check-in is 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required. Early registration, now through Friday, July 20, is $25 per child, $15 per additional child from the same household. Late registration ends Friday, July 27 and is $35 per child $25 per additional child from the same household.

 

Mandatory Kid’athlon packet pickup is Friday, Aug. 3 at Chesterfield Family Center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. A run-through of the course is available 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, July 30, at Meador Park, for those planning to participate in the event. RSVP at 417-837-5900.
