Haugness Awarded Top Tennis Honors for Missouri

The Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) recently presented its annual PTR Missouri Member of the Year award to Springfield-Greene County Park Board's Larry Haugness.

Haugness heads the tennis program at the Cooper Tennis Complex. His career highlights include over 35 years as a club owner, manager and director of tennis. He has coached nationally ranked players from 10 countries, wrote the National Recreation and Parks Association tennis curriculum, served extensively with the United States Professional Tennis Association, and currently serves as the United States Tennis Association Missouri District President, among other distinctions.

PTR selects one member who has displayed the utmost in professionalism on and off the tennis court to be honored as State Member of the Year. Honorees are active in tennis in their communities and show dedication and service to PTR. Not all states have an honoree.

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with 13,000 members in 126 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.

Haugness is pictured here receiving his award from Dennis Van der Meer. Van der Meer is known as one of the foremost tennis teachers in the world. His career spans more than four decades, coaching players such as Margaret Court and Billie Jean King.
