Thank You DOLING PARK MEMORIES Another ride we really enjoyed at Doling Park was the Tilt-A-Whirl. During the mid-50’s (not sure exactly what year) the Tilt-A-Whirl replaced the Caterpillar. It became very popular. A lot of people don’t realize this, but, how well the seats whirl depends on the speed the ride is run. If it’s run too fast, the car will just kinda dance right over the hill. If it’s run too slow, it won’t catch on the slope and spin. “Red” Mosier ran the ride at just the right speed and when it begins to “whirl”, we would always lean into it which made it “whirl” even more. The Tilt-A-Whirl is still a popular ride at most carnivals today. It even has its own fan club. So long until next time. If you have stories, contact me!
