Greater Springfield Community Olympic Development Program (CODP) will provide young men and women the opportunity to learn and compete in the sport of archery with recreational shooting up to the possibility of competing in the Olympics, Paralympics or World Championships.

Pathway of Development lays out the approach that we will use to develop the athlete from just learning the sport to becoming an elite archer ready to compete nationally.

We will have both indoor and outdoor sessions. These programs will provide strong fundamental foundation techniques for the archers to learn the sport correctly and safely. Archery is a lifetime sport.

Pathway of Development

  • Archery Introduction
    • Participants will learn proper technique and safety. Participants which will shoot a limited number of arrows to introduce them to the sport.
    • This program may be presented in:
      • Park day camps
      • Outdoor Initiatives programs
      • Boy and Girl scout camps
      • 4-H Programs
      • An introduction program in schools
      • Special events
  • Learn to Shoot
    • Regular weekly instruction for a period of 3 weeks to teach archery to participants in a series of classes taught by a certified archery instructor or coach.
    • Participants will learn strong fundamental foundation techniques to learn the sport correctly and safely.
    • Both recurve and compound archers will be used
  • Junior Olympic Archery Development Club (JOAD: Age 8 to 18)
    • A structured club that will meet weekly and be run by certified archery instructors and coaches.
    • Continue to refine archers’ shooting techniques.
    • Teach archers how to shoot and score various competitive rounds.
    • Achievement award pins and certificates for Compound, Novice and Olympic Style shooters, and for both indoor and outdoor qualification rounds.
  • Compete/Elite Team (CODP: Youth 18 and under)
    • More advanced form training by certified coaches.
    • Provide training in tournament preparation, nutrition, strength and mental preparation.
    • Strength, Equipment, nutrition and mental training.
    • Athlete archers would compete in State, Regional and National tournaments
