(CODP) Community Olympic Development Program

Ice hockey through the Greater Springfield Community Olympic Development Program provides boys/girls with the programs necessary for a young athlete to develop the skills to become the best hockey players they can be. The program offers the latest on-, and off-ice training techniques essential to taking a player’s game to the next level. Mediacom Ice Park’s prime location in Jordan Valley Park has access to park trails, two full sheets of ice, and a fitness room all in one location. Our focus is to provide a strong fundamental foundation for players in a fun, competitive atmosphere. We allow kids to grow as hockey players without ever having to leave the Springfield area.  CODP provides an opportunity for individual athletes to excel through CODP group camps, training programs, or by individual lessons. Visit CODP Hockey web page.

Cross-ice hockey is a great new program that allows players to develop their skills to the fullest while having fun. This program is in conjunction with USA Hockey and follows their guidelines set forth in the “Long Term Athlete Development” model. By decreasing the rink size, the competition level will increase. In smaller areas players will get more touches on the puck and ultimately improve their skills. Also, with the smaller ice surface players of all skill levels will be involved in the action at all times. For younger players the cross-ice youth league environment engages them in the action and will constantly challenge their skating abilities throughout the process. This program is also under the direction of Community Olympic Development Program Ice Hockey, Head Coach Joe Combs.
